The interview process was very disorganized from the beginning.
To start, the recruiter reached out to me regarding the role on a Monday afternoon. I responded less than 1 hour later. To meet with this recruiter proved to be difficult. She canceled or rescheduled the meeting 4 times before we were able to meet just to do a 15 minute screening. The 15 minute screening happened one week later from the initial request for interview.
Next, I met with the hiring manager. The manager initially asked me to travel two weeks in the month. There was zero mention of travel in the job posting.
The travel requirement proved to be the deciding factor for the role. Because the role did not initially mention travel, I tried to find a compromise. The hiring manager got back to me and stated the minimum travel required and I agreed to the request. He said the next step would be a panel interview with 2 of his teammates.
I prepared for the interview for three days and received zero communication about when the next interview would be scheduled.
I then reached out to the initial recruiter twice. In the second email I asked if they could kindly give me a status so that I know whether I need to continue to prepare or not. It was then the recruiter mentioned they were moving on with another candidate.
I do not think this was a fair interview process. I was well suited for the role based on the job description. I was eliminated from the running for a requirement of the role that was not there to begin with. I would not have applied if the role had the travel requirement.
Tesla should have been respectful of my time as I was with theirs.
