It was a 3-stage interview process for this particular position. I was hesitant as I knew I had not held a “Senior” level PM position to date. The Sr. PM that interviewed me was adamant that I had the skills and knowledge needed for the position. Living over 3 hours away, I entrusted the interviewer and decided to meet further (round 2) with Sr. Management. I had face-to-face interviews with 4 people from different matrixes which spanned over 2 hours. Long story short, I wasn’t selected because of my lack of knowledge of revenue recognition, specifically, ASC606. I was told that I WOULD be selected for the 3rd round with the GM and CEO and to be sure to familiarize myself with the financial intricacies of ASC606. I was told 2 weeks later that, it was in fact my lack of knowledge in revenue recognition. I spent over $120 to go to an interview I knew i had little chance of getting but, listening to “SME”s pushed me out of my comfort zone only to be told the company doesn’t want to train an individual on a core financial process.
