I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Taylor Devices (North Tonawanda, NY) in Jan 2012
Interview
Met with ********, Went through the introductions talked about non related work things for a few minutes. He then asked for a resume, Asked while he was reviewing it if i could fill out an application and take a basic math/machining test. Test was basic addition/subtraction/multiply and divide. When you move on to the machining test do not sit and look things up on your phone. Just explain you didn't want to look it up, But if you were required to know it, you know where to find the information. If you also leave some questions blank because you are unsure of the answers its not big deal, It is not a pass or fail test. It is to figure out where your at as a machinist and the things they need to teach you. We then went over the test and talked about previous jobs and what duties were done at them. Very relaxed interview, no questions like if you could describe yourself in three words what would they be. Or if you were stuck on a desert island and could only bring three things what would they be(yes i have been asked that). After basically just talking about machining and experience, He then asked if i had any questions. I did, just asked about benefits and pay. I was then given a tour of the building and walked out shook my hand and said they would be letting me know within a week. I was called later that day. Got the offer for the job, set up for a physical, hearing, vision, urine drug test and the fallowing week i started my position. On a side note slacks and a button up shirt is fine possibly even a polo. This is a manufacturing facility there looking for skill, not how good you look in a three piece suit.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
They get very into detail about previous jobs and what you did there. They just want to know what your capable of or not capable of. If you don't know something just be honest. They will work with you.
They will ask you about any job related schools, boces, apprenticeship ect. They won't bother asking about high school or if you went to college for something completely unrelated.
