I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Taktile in Nov 2022
Interview
The first two screening interviews with the engineering director/leads were excellent. The technical interview with the team members was a disaster. The worst interview experience I had in 12 years of my career. The interviewers were certainly not qualified enough to do interviews and assess the breadth/depth of a candidate's knowledge space. The interview process focused solely on some python question and a lot of time was spent on that arguing about it while I never said to anybody during the interview process that I am a python developer. The interviewers rather made me angry and confused me during the process instead of helping as they were a bit rude and very assertive. They finished the interview prematurely as they said they had seen enough while I wasn't yet finished on the task and nothing significant in the area of DevOps/SRE was touched except python and passing env variables to docker containers.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Change a python function that calculates square root without using the multiplication operator. And they argued on what is more efficient a for loop or recursion. Run that fast api application inside a docker container and pass env variables. That was all.
We are thankful for all feedback we receive and are acting to provide a positive experience to all candidates that go through a hiring process with us at Taktile, regardless of the outcome. We are constantly adapting to feedback and improving our processes. For the SRE role, we've updated our job description to clarify that coding is a requirement, ideally in Python.
