      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Starling

      Interview

      1. Phone interview. A particular point from CV was grilled. 2. Submit task using banking API's. Not very complicated. Though need to understand API's well before one can do the task. 2. Face to face interview - You are called into office for the interview. A pair interview's first (I guess they make up their mind) then followed by 2nd pair (which might turn into a joke as first pair has already made up their mind). In general it seems that Starling employees seems to be extremely proud of themselves. Possibly because they have seen the growth in front of them. All the interviewers talk a lot, to me more that an interviewee. To me it seems they make up their mind in first 10-20 mins & then they tend to loose interest if one not meeting there standards. This is fair enough but they need to understand that interviewee has reached that level after 2 good rounds of levels are crossed.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. General understanding about the project. 2. Talking about various processes followed in the project. 3. Generic questions around RESTful APi's

      Senior Java Developer Interview

      29 Sept 2019

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Starling (London, England)

      Interview

I can't really describe it, because I haven't progressed very much in the process. I applied online, directly at the company. I got called by their HR really quickly. I have relevant working experience in the field where they are doing business, and went through same problems/issues what they are facing. I used similar tech stack as well. Somehow, I wanted the "next" once in a life position. All of these seemed to be very positive things during the first chat with their HR. So, we agreed a first stage tech interview over the phone. Unfortunately, only 15 minutes before the interview, they cancelled the call in an email. They realised I'd already applied for another role at the company 8 months ago, so they changed their minds, and didn't want to progress with me any more. Well, I really applied for a role 8 moths before that application. That was really a different one, focusing on tech what I wanted to pick up and hadn't really got market ready experience with that. But at this time it was different. I have relevant, proven experience and qualifications for the role. And most importantly I had really good motivation, so I believe I could bring important things to the table, and I tried to expose this feeling to the recruiter. I asked in written, when could I apply again, how much time must be spent between two applications in order to be considered again, but no answer came back. This left a negative feeling in me, e.g.: I decided to close my account at the company.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Nothing, specific just general chat with HR about past experience.

Thank you for your feedback and apologies for your negative experience. If a candidate is not a fit for a particular role, we do want people to see if new opportunities at Starling may be more suited for them. We always look at candidates' experience and determine whether we think they would be a good fit for the position based on skills and attitude. We'll continue to ensure we provide feedback to candidates so candidates understand our reasoning behind our decisions.
