      Sales Consultant Interview

      14 Jun 2019

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Standard Textile (Cincinnati, OH) in Jan 2015

      Interview

Both myself and a friend interviewed with Standard Textile (each for our respective geographic territories). They fly final candidates to Cincinnati after typical phone interviews with HR and the hiring manager. In Cinci I met with HR as well as C level execs and took a tour of the facility. At the time the culture seemed depressed and dead but the facility was impressive. Was not impressed at all with executive management. They made my friend an offer. She countered and they ignored her. Not even a courtesy call or correspondence back. I was passed over and later learned they brought in someone from one of their competitors (so basically the let’s poach business strategy by hiring a former employee of a competitor). I have heard from distributors of their product they will sell direct to customers of distributors after being introduced via the distributor on joint calls. Unethical get the business however you can mentality. In the interview they wanted very specific properties in the Hospitality business I would target. It was like they were using the candidates to build up a prospects list. A blessing I did not end up there as I most likely would not have been happy. Makes sense the would you recommend the company rating from employees is low. My advice..go with your gut. If you pick up the same vibe I did turn and don’t look back.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Many involved them trying to uncover specific ways you would go to market and who you would target to have an immediate impact on business. In other words, gives us all you know and we will no longer need to hire you.

      Question 2

I was actually told by the VP of Sales they have a poor training program and would rather hire candidates from well established companies. He said we know our weakness and are willing to pay for those who have gone through good training elsewhere. I thought to myself wouldn’t a more prudent approach be to put an action plan together and execute it to correct the problem? Wow.
