      Trainee Optical Advisor Interview

      11 Aug 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Specsavers in Jul 2017

      Interview

The application process was so straightforward, all it took was me uploading my CV and covering letter to their career page and done! After about 3-4 days I got an email asking me to complete an online 'test' these were just your generic 'what would you do in this situation' type questions. The next day I was rang by their recruitment team and asked if I was able to attend an interview the following week, I of course said yes. I was advised to dress smartly so I went out and brought myself a smart outfit as I really wanted to look the part. I did my research about the company and looked up some typical interview questions and had answers prepared. I was really glad I did my research as I was asked why I wanted to work for Specsavers and what I knew about the company. My interview was held after the store had closed with the store manager and 'head optician' (sorry I don't know his real job title). When I first got there I was asked to pick out a pair of glasses for a friend, I chose a pair and they seemed really impressed with my choice and completely raved about it throughout my interview, they probably mentioned it about 3 or 4 times. Anyway, we chatted about the company, I was asked lots of different questions and they came across as really liking me, we had a laugh and a joke, I did everything spot on so I left feeling REALLY positive. I couldn't of been more wrong as after waiting over TWO WEEKS I was sent a very generic email saying they weren't taking my application any further. Their reason being was my lack of experience and my skill set didn't match the role. This really angered me as when I initially applied the job description said you needed no previous experience as they would fully train you themselves. So I'm really disappointed and feel as though I completely wasted my time. My advice would be don't bother unless you have some form of optical experience, as although they state you don't need any, clearly you do.
