The interview process consisted of 1 phone call with the recruiter, then 2 phone calls with team members, an on-site 30 minute presentation, and a final director call. The process was over a month. The interviews were no different than other engineering interviews, i.e. tell me about your resume and then some technical questions. The on-site presentation was nerve wracking, but it was cool to meet the team in person. However, the final interview with the director was one of the worst interview experiences for me. Firstly, the director completely blew off my interview, and then the recruiter calls me after and asks to reschedule for 5 that afternoon. Bear in mind, I’m working and took time off to do this, so now I’m pretty much missing a half day. Then the interview comes and the director interrupted me multiple times, asked me technical scenario questions based on their designs so I had no context, and then misinterpreted a question I had asked and said, “Don’t get ahead of yourself bud”. I knew then I didn’t get the job after 5 interviews and many hours of preparation just because of an upset and unprofessional recruiter.
Overall, I was excited to get the job after the on-site, seeing their products, and meeting the team I would work. But there a few red flags. There is no interpersonal connection on interviews, they don’t care what kind of person you are like or about “culture fit”. The coordinating process was strung out and required me to email and text to keep things coordinated and on track. Don’t take an interview on a Friday, rarely is someone in a good mood on that day and I probably didn’t get the job because of a single person out of 10 people I talked to.
