The initial interview experience with SEMPHN was outstanding, leaving a strong impression of a well-managed organisation. It was conducted by a senior leader who demonstrated expertise, professionalism, and genuine engagement, contributing to my excitement about the role. However, the follow-up interview painted a starkly different picture. It was clear that the two junior leads lacked the leadership experience needed for such a setting, evident in their nervousness and awkward communication. The interview, slated for 45 minutes, concluded in just 15, and no substantive or probing questions were posed that allowed for detailed or meaningful responses. Disappointingly, their feedback critiqued an answer to a question that was never explicitly asked. A particularly striking issue was their unfamiliarity with the salary range for the role, which further highlighted their inexperience. This raised concerns about organisational structure and the guidance that junior leaders receive. Ultimately, the experience reinforced my desire to work in an environment led by strong and experienced leaders, fostering growth and learning. While the opportunity initially appeared promising, I feel that moving forward with this role might have been limiting, and the decision to step away feels like a prudent one.
