I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Social Security Administration in Sept 2014
Interview
I applied on usajobs.gov in late July and did not hear anything until late September. (Apparently this is common as the end of fiscal year is Sept 30th) From the time I was asked to interview until I was offered the position was a matter of hours. Phone Interview on speaker with a few lead developers. That was it! A few simple technical questions and I was hired.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Social Security Administration (Baltimore, MD)
Interview
It was a tedious process that was included a test very similar to the SATs. Aside from the regular interview for behavior, there was a 2 or 3 hours "aptitude" test that included basic math, vocabulary (think big is to small as.. tall is to ___ type questions), and then a written exam asking you to procedurally break down a task. It was an.. interesting experience.
