      Marketing Manager Interview

      15 Jun 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Sensei Labs

      Interview

I had a bizarre experience with the Lead who contacted me for this role, where there were red flags with every correspondence: including copy/paste scripts that weren't directly relevant to my application, abruptly asking for a call the very next day and yet forgot to provide me their time, typos in the emails that would have made me suspicious if this were a scam if not for a LinkedIn and email address check, a no show for the interview time with no reason given, making me wait 30 mins before I reached out and got a response asking if I was free an hour later, and again at a time that only suited her. The treatment made me feel like her time was more important than mine, the tone of the correspondence came across as one-sided and careless, and there was very little respect for the candidate's time. When I originally asking the lead to provide her availability, after she forgot to provide her times in her email, I was provided only one date and time, as opposed to the usual protocol of offering you a few to control for any back and forth and for the candidate’s time. And even when I stayed professional, courteous and accommodated her schedule, she was a no-show and an hour after the agreed time (the time she provided) the lead flippantly asked if I could hop on the call an hour later, and did not provide a reason to her no-show. None of the communication indicated respect for the candidates time and trouble, and it’s left a very poor impression of Sensei Lab and how it treats its candidates. The sum of all the parts painted a very flaky and unprofessional candidate experience.

Thank you for providing feedback about your candidate experience. We appreciate everyone who takes the time to share with us, particularly when it helps us improve our process. We rely on Greenhouse, our Applicant Tracking System, to handle scheduling and to provide times and meeting invitations. Unfortunately, in this case, Greenhouse was experiencing a service degradation that caused several of the issues you experienced. This is not an excuse — our platforms are only tools that don't represent Sensei Labs or our values. We apologize for the experience it created and for not being more proactive in correcting for it. We care deeply about the candidate experience and have a great deal of respect for your time. Some of today's candidates will be tomorrow's fellow Senseis and we want them to feel that connection and respect from our first contact. Candidates we can't offer positions to will go on to reflect their experience to their friends and colleagues and so we strive for those to always be world-class. We fell short here and left you feeling disrespected and we're genuinely sorry for that. If you'd like to continue the process, please reach back out to your Sensei Labs contact and let them know you have seen this and would like to proceed. They'll schedule an interview time directly with our CEO.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Sensei Labs (Toronto, ON) in Jun 2024

      Interview

I was contacted by an internal recruiter via LinkedIn for this role. The recruiter canceled the first interview the day of because they were ill. We rescheduled for the following week and they did not contact me at the agreed time. I messaged them to reschedule. They messaged me the next day with a poor excuse, but I agreed to reschedule again for the following week. In the time since I was originally contacted, they removed the job URL from their careers site. It turns out that they changed the job from a manager level to a coordinator level role without informing me prior to our interview. I asked the recruiter about this before we began with standard introductory questions. Huge waste of my time considering my level of experience. I left the interview before discussing anything else.
