I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ScholarshipOwl in Apr 2025
Interview
After the initial online application, there was a form to fill out with seven questions. Took me around 3 hours and 2k words to answer fully.
Then a short call with hiring manager who was very personable and explained the process (but without a clear timeline).
Then a rather vague case study assignment submitted in written presentation format. This took me around 3-4 hours and a $10 subscription to an AI presentation tool. I did get email confirmation that my submission was received but then a full week of silence.
Finally after inquiring I did receive a kindly worded rejection. Based on the rejection and the vague assignment, it did feel as if I was supposed to telepathically understand more about the business than was publicly available. I must have not guessed correctly.

Case Study Task: Marketing a Scholarship Campaign with Constraints
Scenario: ScholarshipOwl has just secured a new sponsored scholarship campaign, but the marketing budget is extremely limited. You are responsible for ensuring that the scholarship reaches as many eligible students as possible, driving quality applications while maintaining cost efficiency.
Your Task:
Campaign Strategy: Propose a multi-channel marketing strategy using low-cost or organic methods to promote the scholarship effectively.
Which marketing channels will you prioritize and why?
How will you leverage partnerships, influencers, or organic outreach?
How will you ensure measurable impact with minimal spend?
Execution Plan: Detail how you would implement your strategy step by step.
Provide a timeline with key milestones.
How will you balance speed and quality of execution?
Who would be involved, and what resources would you need?
Building Trust & Engagement: Explain how your approach fosters trust and engagement with students.
How will you ensure the messaging resonates authentically?
What strategies will you use to create a sense of community and connection?
They ask you to write many essay questions and half the questions could be answered if they just read your resume. They do all this before there is even a call so it feels very one-sided. And they will not share the salary with you which means that it's low.
