I applied online. I interviewed at Savers Health and Beauty (Rainham, South East England, England) in Dec 2024
Interview
Interviewed on the Tuesday. Very informal, but a friendly, comfortable interview. I thought I made a good impression. This vacancy had been on their careers page for a while so assumed they were actually wanting to hire somebody. Told them I am used to working in a fast-paced retail environment (having worked for Iceland) and could evidence all the ways I dealt with pressure and managed a team in a retail environment, how I could upsell products where I could, etc. The manager said she had two more candidates to interview and would let me know by the Friday. It is understandable that the manager would want to get the right fit but a month later, the vacancy reappeared and despite the role barely paying above minimum wage (and only because it is a Supervisor position). They are clearly expecting far too much from a candidate. I thought I'd have been a great fit for the job but noticing all the staff including the manager were female, suffice to say that it would seem this particular store only hires women.
Thought we weren't allowed to discriminate? Not to mention I'm a gay man as well. Vacancy has now been relisted but as an apprentice supervisor role so they want to get somebody in to train up so they can pay even less rather than getting in experienced employees.
Save yourself the trouble and apply for supervisory roles paying a reasonable wage so if you're expected to go completely above and beyond as a Supervisor with lots of responsibility, make sure you're actually paid more appropriately for it.
