I interviewed at Sandy Hook Promise (New York, NY)
Interview
Human Resources was very nice. The professionals I spoke with were insuffereable and condescending. I was strung along for months. Due to the attidude of the folks I met with I would not have taken the job anyway
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They wanted to discuss basically everything I ever worked on in my 20-plus year career.
HR staff began with unnecessary messaging about how this role was initially not budgeted for. Low-balled on salary expectations by saying that any new staff begin on the lower end of the range in the job posting. So low-end salary is non-negotiable, and travel requirement (30%) is non-negotiable. A culture valuing $$ over talent. They are not hiring for the best, but the cheapest.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. At SHP, we strive to be transparent with candidates about our compensation structure. To support both equity and fairness, we follow a strict internal rubric to guide salary placement for new hires. This helps ensure consistency and prevents situations where new staff are brought in at higher pay than colleagues already in similar roles.
Except in extenuating circumstances, new hires join at the beginning of the posted salary range. We include this information directly in our job descriptions and reiterate it early in the interview process so candidates can make informed decisions. We understand this approach may not align with every candidate’s expectations, but it reflects our commitment to equity for our current staff as well as transparency in hiring.
We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best with your job search.

Interview
Interview process was straightforward, phone call, one on one interview, then group interview with several members of staff. It took them awhile to get back to me in between rounds.
