I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Samsara in Jul 2023
Interview
Was reached out to by a recruiter, had the initial screen and made it to the hiring manager interview.
The hiring manager interview was strange for me. First off, I wasn’t provided a working zoom link.
Once that was straightened out, the interviewer seemed totally disengaged with me and showed little interest in speaking. Neither the recruiter nor the hiring manager asked for my resume. The interviewer asked me to explain my past 5 years of sales experience which I once again thought was odd since the position I was approached about required 1-2 years experience and I was in my fourth as an AE.
Lastly, I ALWAYS close when in an interview. Asking about hesitations moving me forward and anything additional I can elaborate on or feedback. The hiring manager flat out ignored it and just said “No, I’m good”. Unsurprisingly, I didn’t make it to the next round.
Unsure if it was a miscommunication with the recruiter or whether they already had someone pegged for the job and were interviewing me as a formality but it was all around a very odd interview process. I expected a lot more and was really disappointed.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about your last five years of sales experience.
I first spoke with a recruiter for the screening process, which took about 25 minutes. She was late, but was very nice and provided tips on what they're looking for. She sent a lot of follow up information to prep for the next interview round. I then met with the hiring manager who did a deeper dive into numbers and expectations.
5 rounds in total, 1 with HR, 1 with a Sales Manager, then 3 in 1 day: Manager, Director and another Director. Very low acceptance rate. Must demonstrate growth mindset, specific deal metrics, and a natural drive.
