      Software Developer Interview

      6 Nov 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Borivali West
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at SaffireTech (Borivali West) in Nov 2022

      Interview

I recently had a very disappointing experience with SaffireTech during their campus recruitment drive. After clearing an initial assessment where only one candidate was chosen (me), I was invited for an in-person interview at the company location. Here’s a summary of the major issues I faced: Unprofessional Setup: The company operates out of a one-bedroom apartment in a residential area, lacking any visible branding or signage. It was difficult to even locate the place, as neither neighbors nor any visible signage indicated that a business was there. Questionable Environment: The workspace was extremely basic, with only a single employee present, and the owner arrived late. The owner displayed unprofessional behavior, leaving me waiting as he attended to personal matters. Disrespectful Interview Conduct: Despite my qualifications, the interview involved basic questions on topics like prime numbers and factorials. After providing my answers, I was subjected to mocking, with the founder Ankit Shah even questioning my educational background in a demeaning manner. Overall, the experience was disheartening and highlighted a lack of professionalism. I would not recommend this company for serious job seekers, as the work environment and conduct displayed were far below expected standards.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. At SaffireTech, we believe in maintaining transparency throughout our recruitment process, and we strive to communicate our methods clearly with every candidate. You mentioned that the interview focused on topics such as prime numbers, recursive functions, and factorials. Our approach is rooted in the belief that a solid grasp of fundamental concepts is essential before moving on to more complex programming tasks. When a candidate is asked to explain or write code for these concepts, it’s our way of ensuring that there is a clear understanding of the basics—an understanding that is critical to success in the role. If a candidate is unable to clearly explain these ideas, it naturally raises concerns about their readiness to handle practical coding challenges. In such situations, we engage in a detailed discussion, sometimes including counter questions, to gauge both preparation and conceptual clarity. Regarding the comments on your educational background, please allow me to clarify: At no point was our intent to question your credentials or diminish your qualifications. Our follow-up questions are designed solely to understand your thought process and to ensure that there is a mutual alignment on technical fundamentals. We regret if our approach was perceived as demeaning; that was never our intention. We don't believe in a "quick hire, quick fire" policy. Instead, we spend the time to properly evaluate candidates, check for their skills and fundamentals, to make sure we get the right people on board. It's about building careers and taking the whole team forward. As for the location and work environment, we’d like to clarify that our office is actually housed within a 2 BHK flat. One part is dedicated to our marketing team while the other serves our development team. We aspire to be a company candidates want to work for. If you think applying for a job is tough, it's not easy to be on this side of the equation either. We are giving it the best every day and wish you best too. Peace!
