I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SPiN Global (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2017
Interview
I applied online during the holidays for a hosting position at the Chicago location and went in for an initial interview with a manager who seemed great. She let me know that they were also looking for food runners to help during the busy season but that one would essentially be scheduled for both hosting and food running depending on the day. I got a follow up email asking if I’d like to do a “test run” for food running on a Wednesday. I went in and met with a different manager who right away made statements like I already didn’t get the position. She said “We’ll test it out and see if it’s a good fit, after it’s over it may not be a good fit for you” which I thought was strange. Come to find out there was another person doing a test run who came in a bit before me and was already passing out food, so I figured that they already had her mind set on her. I was thrown into a private party with a food runner who I was supposed to “shadow” but he gave me zero instruction and pretty much left me high and dry after the first 3 minutes. They kept me for around an hour and I made rounds with appetizers before they pulled me back into the office and told me that I looked “awkward”. Mind you, I’ve had a lot of experience in restaurants and have also served so I’m not sure how this could be. I also think that the manager watched me for a total of 5 minutes. If I was so awkward, why not pull me sooner? I felt as if they just needed help that night since they didn’t have enough staff and also that they were not upfront about the position they were hiring for. Would not recommend this place at all.
