I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Rural Metro (Aurora, CO) in Sept 2014
Interview
The interview was a board interview with around 3 people asking about 6-8 questions. The questions were easy to answer and geared towards the applicants ability to work long hours, weekends/holidays, and get along with partner / fire department, hospital staff, etc. Overall the interview was easy.

Interview
I applied online, 2 weeks latter I received a call to schedule an interview for the next day. Had my interview and was told I should hear back the following week but didn't hear from anyone. I was asked about things that were in both my application and resume, I felt like no one had read either. I was asked to give copies of my certifications and sign electronic agreements before I sat for my interview.

I applied in-person. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Rural Metro
Interview
I was hired over ten years ago, but the current process, as I understand it involves a online application, vetted through the corporate office. Local interview occur after that, usually within 6 months of the application. The interview lasts approx 45 minutes, and is fairly industry standard: "where do you see yourself in 5 years?", etc. A basic DOJ background check, urine test, and a lift test are also included in the process. The lift test is approx 100 lbs, from several positions, as well as a simulated gurney lift.

There are different protocol/operational questions based on the SD County EMS protocols. They are different for the EMT and paramedic hires. Be aware of the restraint policy; it sounds commonly used.
