I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Root Inc. (Columbus, OH) in Feb 2019
Interview
Applied Online, and received a call from recruiter in a couple of days. Recruiter was nice and spoke about the details of the company and then handed out a GitHub project link for an assignment that needs to be completed as a part of hiring. After submitting the project was scheduled for a technical phone interview round, basically asking about OOP and ruby related stuff and some node.js stuff.
Finaly got a call for onsite interview basically dealing with the same project which was earlier submitted and then had lunch outside the office. Two interviewers accompanied me was speaking to themselves as they didn't know each other. Lunch round was bad as they both were boasting and didn't care to ask me anything and never properly responded to my questions.
Then had a technical round discussing about an architectural problem involving mobile app, servers and external apis and handling data and throughput effecientely.
Received reject after a week. No proper feedback. Recruiter was rude and didn't even care to respond.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Root Inc.
Interview
There were four phases:
1) Informal screening with a recruiter.
2) Takehome problem to do on my own time in a language of my choice
3) Technical round interview where they asked me higher level questions about classes/methods/databases
4) Full day session with 1/2 day editing my original coding sample I submitted where they asked to add features and 1/2 day where they asked me to diagram web architecture.
Overall, it was very thorough and allowed me to show off all of my strengths.
The first phone interview was generic, non-technical.
Recruiter would ask about previous background, and introduce the company.
At the end of interview, recruiter send a link of a take-home project (there is no deadline).
