      Human Resources (Supposedly) Interview

      30 May 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Robert Half in May 2019

      Interview

I applied for an advertised HR position and was emailed on a Wednesday about my availability to interview. I explained that I was not available on Thursday, but could interview on Friday. On Thursday, the recruiter began texting me, insisting that I do a Skype interview right away. Um, no...I'm not available Thursday, and I insisted on keeping my interview on Friday. I was then sent an email stating that I needed to send over references right away, and that they needed to be from immediate supervisors. I'm sorry, but why do they get to determine who I get references from? Is a colleague that I worked closely with, or a manager from a different department not acceptable? Why not? During the interview on Friday, I was asked some very easy and general questions about my background. I was then told that another recruiter would come in to tell me about their available jobs. The other recruiter came in and told me that they couldn't tell me what jobs they had available until I went home and finished my online assessment tests. Huh? Why tell the other recruiter to come talk to me then? I could have been back in my car already instead of waiting on this other recruiter to tell me nothing. On Monday I received a call from yet another recruiter who wanted to know more about my background. I gave her the information, and she very rudely informed me that because I have run my own business for the last 5 years, she just couldn't promote me to companies as a full time employee, instead I would have to be promoted strictly as a temp. Then she demanded I resubmit an "updated" resume. I resubmitted my original resume which clearly outlines both my past work experience as well as my experience as a business owner. If they knew that I have been running my own business over the last several years, and we discussed it during my interview, then why is this suddenly such a shock and a problem? Never heard from them again after that, and I have a feeling that might be a good thing. Talk about snotty and rude! Was there even a real job that I was applying for? I have my doubts.
