      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Richter (Toronto, ON) in Jan 2021

      Interview

Cumbersome and excessively long interview process. Really tells you that their firm culture is full of distrust and doubt in their own employees. I also notice that they only hire white males with no diversity. 1. Prelim call with one of the seniors. 2. Excel model test (30 min) 3. Financial model test (30 min) 4. Case interview with creativity 5. Partner Interview 1 6. Partner Interview 2 7. Speak with the team members and get to know people This long process prompts me to ask, "who do you think you are"? You are a no-name company that does restructuring with no real market power, why should I choose you over other big banks or big 4? If anything, a small firm like Ricther should highlight its small company culture and show that it's different from the big firms, with better culture. Yet its interview process is more intense than the other better firms, why should I join Richter then? Do note that this position is entry level. Yet they are asking for full CPA and seasoned professionals with 3 years of experience - to do an analyst job. That really shows you their culture and the lack of respect they have for your skills. Do note join this company.

I’m sorry you felt this way about your experience and it’s certainly not our intention to give off this impression. For many teams, the interview stages involve meeting with other team members to ensure they are involved in the team building process; emphasizing the importance of collaboration, support and collective growth. It’s true, we’re not like the Big 4 – we aren’t a multinational, but rather a proudly independent boutique firm that engages in specific mandates with a very select and discerning type of clientele. We place a great deal of trust and autonomy in each of our team members because a lot of professionals – even at the more junior level – have direct client involvement early on. The aim of this is to support career development and share knowledge with our team members as many in the Richter team started as summer students have grown to become partners and help us lead the firm in creative new ways. I’d be happy to chat more about this with you to understand better your point of view - there’s always space for improving that comes from consensus and understanding! If you wish to, please reach out to me at sbordenave@richter.ca Thank you, Sarah Manager, Talent Acquisition

      I interviewed at Richter

      Interview

Multiple interviews including various excel and other tests. Meeting with the senior leaders was chaotic with puzzling questions in a rapid fire format and overall lack of professionalism. No rejection, no response to follow-ups. One of the oddest interview experiences I have had.
