I interviewed at Repl.it for a Designer position that was open for a long time, because I was passionate about their mission to democratize software creation. Growth and experienced role models were my top priorities in a work environment. Upon further research, I discovered that the Head of Design doesn't actually have any experience in product design and has found her way into the company via nepotism, being the wife of the co-founder. This raised some red flags. Moreover, her portfolio included more photos of herself than of her actual work. I felt uncomfortable about potentially working somewhere that does not value meritocracy and chose to pursue other opportunities, despite the promise of a second interview.
