I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rakuten in Jun 2025
Interview
The interview process began with a conversation with the Hiring Manager, which was a very positive experience. The discussion was engaging, and it gave me a good impression of the team and the role.
However, the second round (technical interview) was disappointing. It was structured as 30 minutes of coding and 30 minutes of Q&A. Unfortunately, the interviewer came across as dismissive and rigid. He insisted that my approach was “useless” without providing valid technical reasoning, which I found unprofessional and disrespectful — especially in a setting meant to evaluate collaboration and problem-solving, not just dogmatic correctness.
To make matters worse, the interviewer was a recent joiner at Rakuten, which made his overly authoritative attitude feel misplaced. Constructive dialogue and mutual respect are key to assessing candidates, and this round lacked both.
Overall, the first round showed promise, but the second round raised concerns about the team culture.

Interview
Don't go through 3rd party for interview in Rakuten . Rakuten conducts fake interviews. Inspite of doing well, they block your number after final round conducted. Such a waste of time.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Rakuten (Tokyo) in Aug 2025
Interview
The first interview will be with a recruiter. In this stage, you will introduce yourself and talk about your professional experience. It mainly focuses on evaluating your English communication skills, cultural fit, and overall background.
The second stage was with another interviewer, but the experience felt unclear. The questions were vague and very general, so I often felt like I was just talking to myself. The lack of engagement made the interview feel monotonous, and I found the interviewer yawning throughout entire session.

In the second stage, the interviewer asked me questions related to Kafka, RabbitMQ, CQRS, Saga Orchestration, and microservices.
