I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at R Street Institute in Apr 2023
Interview
Initial screener on the phone, easy. Then, a panel with 5 people across the company. Pretty routine questions, just long. Seems like the questions were generic - not really tailored to my experience or resume.

Question 1
Describe a challenge that I faced at a previous job and how I resolved it.
Wonderful interview process. I didn't get the job but I can't emphasize enough how positive the experience was. They kept me informed and were incredibly warm and welcoming. I imagine it's a great company to work for.

Question 1
What do you prefer, writing a long-form paper or giving a presentation?
Phase 1 of interview was average in difficult with relevant questions. The HR person was very personable and conducted a structured interview. Gave a summary of what to expect in the beginning and followed that outline. He was informative and respectful of my time. The interview lasted about an hour. The second phase was a timed multiple question essay test. I was given two essay questions that required research and in-depth analysis. The time limit was four hours. I was able to complete the assignment and felt confident in my answer. I returned the essay and received confirmation that it was received. The time limit and extend of work required to complete t phase 2 was unnecessary. In practice no one in our field conducts research in a few hours. They would have learn more about my skills from a proper writing sample. I never heard from them again.

Question 1
How do you handle conflicting opinions with stakeholders?
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our apologies if you did not receive a response as it is our policy to send emails through our automated HR platform to candidates who have not been selected to move forward. Perhaps there was a technological issue or it went to junk mail, but we are sorry you did not receive it.
Our assessments are designed to provide a glimpse into how someone would approach a project, within the provided time limit. We understand that the day-to-day responsibilities of similar projects would take more time in practice, but in the interest of respecting candidates' time we keep the limits short and adjust our assessment of the returned materials accordingly. We will consider your thoughtful suggestions of how to improve this process as we approach hiring in the future.
Thanks again for your feedback.
