I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Powerplay Brands (Oldham, England)
Interview
I recently had an interview with Powerplay Brands that left me extremely disappointed and disheartened. The entire process was unprofessional and disrespectful.
From the start, the interviewers asked questions that were irrelevant to my professional experience, such as details about my partner's occupation, where they worked, and whether they worked from home. These questions felt invasive and had no bearing on my qualifications for the role.
Throughout the interview, I was made to feel belittled and silly. When asked why I wanted to work there, I expressed my enthusiasm for the fashion industry, stating that I loved the idea of dipping my toes into it. They laughed in my face and sarcastically remarked, "This ISN'T fashion, it's accessories," making me feel incredibly stupid—even though the company is a supplier for fashion brands.
Despite wanting to maintain professionalism, I couldn't help but feel that terminating the interview would have been more dignified. After explaining my career break, I received a dismissive comment about "getting back to the real world," which I found shallow and insensitive. It was clear to me that the interviewers were judging me from the moment I walked through the door, and I couldn't shake the feeling that this might have been due to my age or race.
This experience has left a lasting negative impression, and I would never want to work for a company that treats potential employees with such disrespect. I hope my feedback helps improve the interview process for future candidates.
