      Business Development Associate Interview

      26 Jan 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at PitchBook in Jan 2015

      Interview

I applied online in December and had a reference from within the company. I was then contacted by a recruiter in January about an initial interview. The phone interview was very standard and the interviewer was quite courteous, even though they called 10 minutes late. I advise everyone to do some initial research on private equity and venture capital ahead of time as they will ask what you know. I was emailed a few days later to set up an onsite interview for the next week. For my onsite interview, I met with the Inside Sales Manager (ISM) first, while the recruiter sat in. The Sales Manager was a bit intimidating, but nice. We went over the standard questions about me, my skills and what I knew about the company. You cannot be vague, as he will not accept any answer that isn't incredibly detailed. My only concerns were that the ISM kept looking around the room instead of focusing on me and that we interviewed in a large, open common space that was shared by another company. After he left, I waited for about 10 minutes for the Sales Manager (SM). The SM asked me similar questions about my skills and why this company. Like the ISM, he was not very interested in any sort of vague answers. I advise that one does extensive research about the company, the products and the employees (Linkedin). After the interview, I was debriefed by the recruiter and told that she would be in touch by the end of the week. I sent thank you emails to everyone and waited. On Friday night at around 8pm, the recruiter sent over a personalized rejection letter that was very kind and courteous.

      Question 1

When asked, why PitchBook? I responded with the truth: it is a respected company with great reviews, high growth and all of my research had shown how well they treat their employees. This was too vague for my interviewers and they repeatedly pressed me for a more specific answer. They also asked, why the financial sector? I didn't actually anticipate this question and had to bs something. That cost me points.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at PitchBook in May 2017

      Interview

I was interviewed by PitchBook in 2014. The interview process was thorough and relatively straightforward. I was scheduled for 3 separate interviews, and in the final one I took a personality assessment. I was notified at that point that the company would be proceeding with a different candidate.

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at PitchBook (New York, NY) in Apr 2016

      Interview

Very easy and laid-back process, nothing to strenuous, but still formal and professional. Applied via school career website, and received email to set up phone interview. I was abroad at the time, and they were still very accommodating. Second interview was suppose to be Skype, but opted for phone again instead, where MD was looped in. Asked general questions, and after two phone interviews I was hired, competitive process between dozens of applicants.

      Question 1

what I knew of the company, what I wanted to get out of the internship, any previous experience, any questions I had. Nothing too technical, mostly personality probing and enthusiasm combined with capability.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PitchBook (Seattle, WA) in Dec 2015

      Interview

Pretty simple process. Went through phone screening with recruiter, met with managers for in office, met with directors and then that was really it for me because I didn't get called back after that.
