Recruiter contacted me by email to interview. Within two weeks I was on site in Canby for an interview. Upfront, everything seemed fair and it was a smooth interview with the manager, aside from what makes me the best candidate. I replied these are my strengths and without knowledge of the other candidates, i don't know how I stack up.
We then had a good exchange, position details, how my skills are a match, and it seemed to be going well. I asked if remote work is ever possible during times of extreme weather or emergency and I was told, yes, "...but we expect you to be here." The manner that response was delivered gave me pause.
I was then given a tour and was impressed by the work going on and the cleanliness of the facility. Nice.
Once I saw the work station, I began to think I would not be comfortable here. It was a big square desk, divided into 4 cube like work spaces and divider at nose height. No privacy to get work done and a big red flag about micro managing. I currently work in a tall cube environment for privacy, and all I have to do to consult with a co worker is stand up and take a couple steps.
I then had a phone interview on site with HR, who was out of state. I thought it was a good call and exchange. It was followed up with a benefits email. Not impressed. A high deductible stinks.
As I left, I was still somewhat interested as the industry is interesting. I had one last phone interview with HR who said, she still had interviews to conduct before the decision. That's when I knew this wasn't the place for me. She's looking for the perfect subservient. No thanks, I don't want to work for you and your open office plan isn't a good environment.
