A recruiter reached out with a job description, and after I sent in my resume, they arranged a virtual meeting with the hiring manager, followed by an onsite interview. During the interview, overtime was mentioned repeatedly; they expect employees to work at least 50 hours per week. This was confirmed by several current employees, who indicated that the 50-hour workweek expectation is accurate.
The hiring manager also shared their roadmap for the next few years, which conflicted with what I’d heard from other employees. This discrepancy made me question whether the manager was being truthful or if the employees were simply uninformed, but either way, it raised a red flag. HR described an “extremely appealing bonus mechanism” but admitted there are no set criteria for earning the bonus—it’s entirely based on the manager’s recommendation. This lack of transparency was concerning.
Ultimately, I received a message from the recruiter that they won’t be moving forward with my application. This isn’t surprising, as I expressed reservations about the overtime expectations, given my family commitments and need to finish work on time. I would decline the offer if I was given one anyway with many red flags.
