      Power Plant Operator Interview

      30 Sept 2018
      Anonymous employee
      State College, PA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Penn State (State College, PA) in Sept 2017

      Interview

The interview consists of meeting with the Steam Plant Operations Supervisor and the Superintendent of Steam Services. They ask about your background in operating power plants and what skills you have. They will also ask generic HR type questions such as "what would you do if you had a disagreement with a supervisor". After the interview, if they like what they see, management will arrange for you to take a written test. If you pass that, you'll be called in for a "hands-on" test which really just serves as a formality and encompasses ensuring you can handle being in a confined space (such as a boiler or DA tank). After that, the university will run a background check to ensure you're not a child molester and you'll be starting a few weeks later.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What would you do if boiler level indication showed an empty boiler?
