      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Optiver in Nov 2016

      Interview

Quick response after applying. Had to take an eight minute eighty question math test. The questions were at a 4th or 5th grade level of math, but you only have 6 seconds per question so it is pretty tough. Basic multiplying and dividing fractions, adding and multiplying two digit numbers or decimals. It was tricky mostly because of the multiply choice aspect, since for the fraction questions you would get an answer and then then would have to figure out if the answer you got was in the same reduced form as the multiple choice answers. Make sure you practice beforehand since it took me 3 or 4 minutes to get comfortable with the format and by then it was already too late.

      Interview

The HR was really friendly. The whole interview process lasts for about 30 minutes. I interviewed on Friday and I am going to know the outcome on Monday. There are three tests for the assessment centre. The first one is decisive which you need to answer 80 questions in 8 minutes. The bench mark is about 48. The second test is about sequences. You are given the first few numbers in a sequence and you need to know what the next number should be. The third one is also about mental maths. But this time you have less questions and more time.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Optiver (London, England) in Dec 2015

      Interview

Joined the mathematics tests in December,2015 and is currently preparing for the telephone interview. The math tests are composed of three parts--- mental arithmetic I, numerical sequence and mental arithmetic II. The parts where people find most difficult is the first part. One mark is given for each correct answer but two is deducted if wrong or skipped. 80 questions need to be finished within 8 mins. More of half of the attendance were kicked out during this round. The second round is easier but still 2 of us were kicked out. Just as the examiner told us, the 3rd round is the easiest as all of us who survived the first two rounds also passed the third. It more complex than the first round but more time and less questions are included.
