      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Optiver (Shanghai, Shanghai)

      Interview

      1. Campus talk, after that follows two math test: a 8min quick calculation test, and a 20min sequence test. Sequence is a bit harder but i finished it all. 2. Verbal reasoning test. Online test, provided by some online test platform, about 30min. 3. Phone interview with an HR. Asked a lot of questions about your background, behavioral, experience, blabla, nothing technical though. 4. First-round onsite interview. It's about 1 hour, 30min with an HR, all behavioral questions, and 30min technical part with a trader. He first asked me to estimate how many BaoZis is consumed every Friday night in Shanghai, and then a trader game, lots of mental calculations, expectation calculations, blabla.. 5. Still waiting for the result of the first-round onsite interview. If lucky, there will be a second-round onsite interview day. Expecting... Wish me luck.

      Trainee Trader Interview

      7 Jun 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Optiver in Jun 2017

      Interview

CV and cover letter submitted online. Received a call the very next day to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview was super easy, it was just about my university experience. Following the phone interview got told to complete the mental maths test. I tried to practice online with this "trader mental maths" that was linked in an interview review on Glassdoor. However, the questions in the actual maths test were much much harder. I scraped through on the maths test (apparently they don't take anyone under 50/80). The next step was a skype interview, which was 50% behavioural and 50% the trader game test. The behavioural part of the interview was actually pretty similar to the phone interview, mostly about university and work experience, the trader game was easy, but hard to do under interview pressure. They called me a few days after the interview telling me that they weren't progressing with my application because I hadn't performed well enough in the trader game.
