I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Octopus Energy (London, England) in Nov 2022
Interview
The interview was in 3 stages. 1) an introductory chat to discuss what kind of role you're looking for, what the company can offer and what their goals are, what your previous experience has been, what your preferred technologies are and so on. This is all at a high level, not much technical detail. 2) a take-home test, and they were very flexible with the timing since I was too busy to complete it for quite some weeks after the initial call. The test is clear and simple in principle (to build a responsive page from a design with a basic add to cart feature), but completely open-ended in terms of the stack and how you approach it. 3) a second, more technical call to discuss the test submission. This was thorough and covered all the key areas of the test, and consisted mainly of me talking through my decisions and alternative approaches I may have taken. It was a very friendly and positive atmosphere and didn't ever feel combative or like they were trying to trip me up. We also discussed the sorts of things I might be working on, and I was given a chance to ask any questions I had about life at the company.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Octopus Energy (Valencia, Valencian Community) in Oct 2024
Interview
I first had an interview with HR, which was alright. Then I had a code challenge, in which I invested about 20 hours. After handing it in, I had to chase HR for weeks to get some sort of feedback. Almost two months later, I learned I wasn't selected via an automated email.
The feedback I got was scarce and not detailed at all.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Octopus Energy in Sept 2024
Interview
I had a meeting with HR, after that I barely had any contact with them. I sent them the technical challenge but I never had any feedback from them. I think they simply have ghosted me. It is a shame because I was really interested in the company and I put a lot of effort in the code challenge.
Definitely one of the worst interview process I have ever been. Very unprofessional.
4 steps interview process
First with HR staff
Then hybrid technical interview with two engineer, hybrid in the sense that it's just a talk about your skills and background
3rd interview is the proper technical screening with a take home assignment
Final interview is a review of the assignment and they make the offer.
