I went through the first round with staff members. It was program dependent so I got an interview with the specific program associate I applied under. The first round comprised of technical questions regarding your resume and the work you did in the nuclear sector.

They will ask you about area sector of nonproliferation that you cares most about, and bring up technical questions regarding your personal prediction / interpretation for a specific issue
I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Nuclear Threat Initiative in Feb 2022
Interview
It was a lengthy process of about five/six months that ended confusingly. The process was laid out as one interview with the team lead/director and another senior staff. Followed by a written work test. Then a group interview with the whole team. I had an additional interview with vice president responsible for the program, as they were unavailable for my 'whole team' interview. At this stage I had received very good feedback on my application status (as a 'finalist candidate') and had a final interview with one of NTI's executive leadership. It seemed to me to be fairly confirmatory since the vice president involved in the last interview was not involved in day-to-day operations of the team. Getting to this stage took about four months. After a lengthy time (several week) where I received no updates on the status of my application, I was not given an offer. I was given a somewhat confusing explanation that the team needed to focus on hiring a candidate with skills that were not outlined in the original PD. In the end it appears that NTI did not end up hiring anyone to fill the original job posting, and that the team needs and direction changed during my application process. Apart from the confusing outcome/lack of communication, I found the work test interesting and the interviews with team members engaging.
