Interview process was alright. Wasn't anything glaringly negative about it, but there was not anything that I would say they did better than other companies. You get what you expect from Northwestern Mutual.
Great, easy communication and was very knowledgeable with job position. Had a great time interviewing for role. Recruiting made process super easy and smooth. Would definitely recommend. Ultimately, went with another company.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Los Angeles, CA) in Aug 2023
Interview
It was great at first but then they started painting me this pretty picture, then started confusing me. They keep changing their story. It feels misleading and dishonest. 4 full rounds of interviews. I have interviewed with other companies such as New York Life and it's the same BS. The only difference with NWM is as long as you are working and logging in your meetings and referrals you get paid, however, with NYL you have to bring in at least 3k of business before they pay you. The first round was great, second interview was decent. I had a 30-minute virtual meeting with a financial advisor and that's when things started to decline. She mentioned oh by the way you will be required to buy a laptop that's provided by us. I said i have a laptop. she said oh no you have to use the laptop we provide because its in compliance. When I asked how much is it? she said oh they can talk to you about that at a later time. I said no, I want to know what I am getting myself into before I move forward. I was reading her body language and she seemed annoyed and irritated. Then she said it's about 2k and you can either pay it upfront or in payments. They never mentioned that to me at all. It's like pulling teeth with them to get them to tell the truth. Then, when I asked about the 75k salary and asked her to break it down for me I said that the way the first guy communicated that with me was that as long as I am working I get paid weekly. She said oh no that's actually a stipend only if you meet the quota of 2 meetings per day, 6 meetings per week with 20 referrals then you get compensated 1,000 per week. Then there are also 3 weeks of UNPAID training and you must be in the office for a full 8 hours of unpaid training. Then after that, you must be in the office Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I can't afford to give them 40 hours of my time for FREE!!!! . I have bills to pay and I have to keep a roof over my head! This is so frustrating. Just be honest with people! Don't waste their time! This is so misleading!! It's like they want to drag you in slowly slowly and they won't tell you anything until you're finally in. They reel you in. It's so evil!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why do you want to join North Western Mutual? What are your top 3 strengths and your top 3 weaknesses? They asked me also personal questions but they made the process so comfortable at first that it didn't feel like an interview. They asked if I was married. Do I plan on having kids any time soon? What are my hobbies?
