I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Santa Barbara, CA) in Mar 2009
Interview
The recruiter I met at our career fair called me and set up a time for me to come to their office in Santa Barbara. She asked me a bit about myself and told me a little about the internship position. I had read online that NW mutual's internship was basically selling life insurance to your family and friends and so I asked the recruiter if I was selling to family and friends. She basically told me that I would learn the specifics of the internship later in the interview process. I decline a second interview and she called me a month later asking me if I had changed my mind.
Straightforward process, interviewed with them on campus. They provided the information I needed. I decided to not move ahead with the interview process as it did not align with my goals, but the interviewers were cordial and professional.
Felt like they were selling me something the whole time. Super easy to talk to, but something just felt off the whole time. Had multiple phases of them explaining why they're so perfect and great to work for (massive selection bias in some of their numbers)
