      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at New York Times (New York, NY) in Sept 2020

      Interview

Initial call with recruiter that went well and was enjoyable. It seemed like a great fit. After that, I learned they farm their technical interviews out to a 3rd party company. This was yet another interview where candidates are asked to spit out algorithms on the spot under a strict time limit that have absolutely nothing to do with anything that would ever be done on the job. I failed to produce a working algorithm within the time limit because my experience revolves around writing production-ready UI components for real applications, not manipulating bizarre data structures that no API would ever return. I received an automated rejection letter a few days later.

      Front End Developer Interview

      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at New York Times

      Interview

I had a 45 minute mostly behavioural phone interview, then was emailed a coding assignment. The assignment was time consuming but I completed each requirement with 100% of tests passing. I emailed the completed assignment back to the person who interviewed me and got no response email. I followed up a week later to check in, and did not receive a response. I worked hard on the code assignment and was very disappointed they didn't bother to at least give me the decency of a response after I poured many hours of work into completing the code assignment. Overall a very negative experience.

      Question 1

Code assignment in node with react and scss to parse a json file, perform a translation, and display the results in a responsive design.
