1h google hangout(leetcode easy) - 6 onsite interviews
I discovered about visa sponsorship during the onsite interview that they are not having upfront commitment which immediately triggered red flag and I kind of got impression that they are in to experiment of scaling the team.
If you have priorities on something like that, these days lots of businesses are scaling their tech teams but keep in mind that great scaling comes with great risk, if businesses would not be able to hit their foretasted targets these jobs will be at higher risks, in short don't put yourself or your creativity driven by all these factors,
if you are giving 100% of your efforts then expect your employer to show that confidence through the opportunity, during the process I got lot of red flags while interacting with their teams and clear sight that they are sort of looking temporary scaling of team and not having long term vision.
If you have any priorities like visas then avoid putting yourself in to these kind of situations, go for more established opportunities.
I have always seen that majority of tech opportunities are categorized in to two parts,
1. Tech opportunities with the companies who does the non tech business
- Here IT budgets are allocated based on yearly growth of business, here chances are
more of tech positions getting ramp down with less impact to the business positions like
analysts, managers etc if business forecast does not meet the targets. In short, Business drives IT.
2. Tech is the core business
- Companies having core tech business which is an essential part of the market, these are the places where your performance will keep you growing.
In short, Tech drives the Business.
As a candidate I would suggest, make hiring a both way evaluation process and not just the one sided, take each opportunity given to you to ask the questions,
by this way if you ask wise questions it will unleash the work culture, practices being followed at your future employer and avoid you getting in to risky positions based on your priorities.
Over the period of time you will develope an art of asking the questions which will make you evaluate your future peers by asking them questions which is a hidden opportunity of indirectly conducting their interviews without
their knowledge and getting the exposure on the maturity of tech work/ teams that they are having and evaluating it with your expectations.
