      Account Executive Interview

      23 Jun 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Frederick, MD
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at New North (Frederick, MD) in Jun 2020

      Interview

My interview experience was an incredibly misleading, disappointing waste of time. The initial interview was a 'Zoom' call with the President, Tobin, where I was asked basic questions about myself and experience. Then, I was invited to visit their office for an extensive, 2 hour second interview where I meet with Tobin and different team members to answer questions, and had the opportunity to sit-in on their daily 'Stand Up' meeting. What was not disclosed anywhere in the job description was the Christian-Faith based atmosphere and practices that are promoted within the company. There is a prayer that takes place after each daily meeting, that I was told I didn’t have to participate in, but as a non-Christian, was a tad bit offensive and a bit old-world if I do say so myself. Regardless, I was invited back for a 3rd interview where I was to present a proposal to the whole team based off a 1-minute video of a mock-client phone call that was sent to me. Immediately following my presentation and after some negotiation on salary, I was made a verbal offer from Tobin, we shook hands, and I left the office feeling excited to start this new adventure. I was told I would receive a formal offer via email later that day. After not hearing back after 2 days, I sent a follow up email to be sure that nothing else was needed from me in order to move forward. I received a vague response from Tobin, stating that he was 'considering our conversation and would follow up on Monday.' Monday came and went, and I finally received a response at 8:30pm stating the following: "I have to admit, I was not prepared for an increase in your asking price. Although I appreciate your negotiation skills, it feels a bit misleading and our interview process was predicated on that information. I'm afraid at that level, we have other options with more specific experience that we need to explore." I was disappointingly mislead, which caused me to miss out on other opportunities, as well as missing time with my current employer which led to nowhere. To make a verbal offer that you back out on almost a week later is one of the most unprofessional things I have ever experienced.

Alexia Hasbrouck, I'm sorry for your experience as well. I would like to highlight three things that are incorrect with your review. 1. We do not ask about anyone's faith, nor is it considered in working here. Listing that as a question is a lie. 2. The owner's faith is disclosed on the website in plain clear view, it was not hidden. 3. You were told that Tobin would have to think about your last-minute counteroffer which was over 33% higher than your stated range at the beginning of the process. You priced yourself out of contention for the role, and your lack of transparency was concerning enough to reconsider you for the role. We're sorry about your experience and that it drove you to post incorrect information about your experience to defame us. We still wish you the best in your new career and it was nice to get to know you.
