      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Meta (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2020

      Interview

Interview for data engineer position in Seattle. Telephonic consists of 5sql & 5programming questions as others have pointed out. I had 2 main issues. 1) The sql setup in coderpad was in postgres and while running queries, I encountered datatype errors that are specific to postgres only. While it might come as second nature to someone who uses postgres daily, for most, it can really throw them off. Simple integer maths was failing. I was able to complete 3 full solution and able to get part result on the 4th question while explaining the rest of the approach to the interviewer's satisfaction. 2) While the programs were simple, the executions seemed to get stuck on the edge-case/ "None" test cases. Had this problem more than once and even the interviewer wasn't able to resolve the problem before deciding to move to next question. My 4th solution was complete but failed in the edge-case test case again and I didn't get a chance to fix it. While these problems seem trivial and non issue for most cases, they do play a part when a candidate is being timed and under pressure of doing as much as possible. At the end of the day, I ended up spending precious time in debugging environment/ runtime issues that doesn't really represent my engineering capabilities.

      Question 1

Level of severity is in line with what folks have mentioned above. But they have new question set. Funny that they kept asking the same questions for more than a year before changing them out.

      Interview

Begins with an application review and recruiter screening, followed by a technical phone interview that assesses SQL, data modeling, data warehousing, ETL processes, and coding skills in languages such as Python or Java. Successful candidates then proceed to onsite or virtual interviews, which include multiple rounds covering coding, system design, data architecture, problem solving, and behavioral questions.
