I began the interview process in November 2018 with M&D after Doug reached out to me on LinkedIn. I was then put in contact with the internal recruiter. Doug and I spoke about a support role, reporting directly to Doug, however, the recruiter had no idea about this and said Doug often does his own hiring and is more or less willy-nilly about it. Instead, the recruiter suggested two other roles that they “were currently” recruiting for. After many emails and calls about what position would be best, I had a couple phone interviews with the recruiter and hiring manger, followed by a 5- hour in-person interview with the team and hiring managers.
After that interview, I was told them team liked me and everyone was impressed, however, they thought I would be bored in the role given my past experience. I found this very annoying, as they had my resume and work experience, and I had countless calls and emails with the recruiter about what role would align well with my background, skills and abilities. The recruiter then suggested another role, which I interviewed for by coming in for another 5-hour in-person interview, meeting the team and hiring managers. After this interview, the recruiter said the team liked me and thought I would be a good fit and the next step was talking to Melissa. He was working to confirm a time, however, it’s been nearly 6 weeks and I have not heard from him, nor has he replied to my email asking for an update.
I find it incredibly unprofessional for a company to occupy 15+ hours of my time, spanned over a 5-month interview process, and not provide any communication when asked. I would be very happy with a “sorry, we have decided to go another direction”, as opposed to being ignored.
I believe the recruiting process is a strong reflection of how a company operates and treats its employees. Perhaps I dodged a bullet here.
