Overall, the interview process scared me off. Very little time for applicant questions and then a fairly intense level of reference checks that led me to believe they might be entitled and/or micromanagers.
The interview process itself was pretty common for consulting. There was a screening, take-home case, panel interview, and one interview with the hiring manager (fairly senior leader). It was nice that a few of the interviews were phone only.
There was almost no time in the interviews for me to ask questions. That's a red flag for me.
The references is where I became a little more concerned. They checked references for multiple finalists (odd given the time investment they ask of references). Each of my references was asked to answer 11 questions, most of which required a few sentences. Then a very senior person (the hiring manager) called my references to follow-up.
Between the fact that they were asking a great deal of time from my references, and then after such a thorough check a senior leader was calling my references, I developed concerns I might be walking into a situation where leadership felt entitled and/or were micromanagers.
