I applied online. I interviewed at Maxon Computer (Toronto, ON) in Sept 2023
Interview
The interview lasted about 15–20 minutes. In the first stage, I was asked the standard questions that are usually covered in an interview. In the second stage, the questions were more in-depth and focused on the design process.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked me to walk through my design process in detail — from research and understanding user needs, to ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and finally testing and iterating based on feedback.
Overall Rating: ⭐⭐ (2/5)
Interview Process Overview
The process consisted of five rounds over approximately six weeks:
Preliminary HR Screening (Feb 20): A standard discussion to align my experience with the role.
Role Deep-Dive with Head of Product (March 12): A productive conversation about expectations, team dynamics, and mutual fit. The chemistry was great, and we aligned well on the role’s scope.
Technical Review with Senior UX Designers (March 17): A positive session to assess skills and vision. The dialogue was engaging, and I appreciated the clarity around team objectives.
Cross-Functional Technical Round (March 25): Insightful discussions with the Senior Dev Manager and Product Manager about collaboration. I enjoyed learning more about the role’s technical nuances.
Final Interview with VP (April 3): Despite being informed of potential postponement due to internal changes, we proceeded. I presented my background and design philosophy, though there was an implication that decisions were already underway.
Strengths of the Process
Engaging Interviewers: Each round featured knowledgeable, respectful, and enthusiastic team members.
Role Clarity: The discussions with the Head of Product and UX team were particularly helpful in understanding the position.
Technical Alignment: The later rounds provided valuable insight into how the role collaborates across functions.
Areas for Improvement
Timeliness & Communication: The gap between rounds (e.g., 3 weeks between Rounds 1 and 2) and the final decision (one month post-interview) could be streamlined. A more structured timeline would improve candidate experience.
Feedback Transparency: After investing significant time in five rounds, I would have appreciated constructive feedback on why I wasn’t selected. This would help candidates grow and leave with closure.
Final Round Clarity: The VP round felt somewhat abrupt, given the hints that decisions were already in motion. Earlier transparency about the process stage would have managed expectations better.
Advice to Candidates
Prepare to discuss cross-functional collaboration in detail, as this was a recurring theme.
The team values vision alignment—be ready to articulate how your philosophy fits Maxon’s goals.
The process is lengthy, the interviewers are genuinely talented in a sting the right questions. Have a lot of patience and be proactive in follow-ups.

I applied online. I interviewed at Maxon Computer (Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe) in Mar 2025
Interview
1st Interview with HR, easy going but they tried to make excuses about my salary requirements. ie: "oh yes it's senior but we have different variations of Senior" Just a way to justify lower salary!
Got a 2nd interview, the Senior guy was nice, interview was good, a few technical questions but nothing too intensive. I let the interviewer know I was not available for approx 1 week if I were to progress to the 3rd round, he was ok with that.
I received an invite for a 3rd interview, technical with 2 software engineers. The email read something like:
"We enjoyed getting to know you and appreciate your dedication
to our process. We are impressed by your expertise and are excited to continue the conversation with you."
The 3rd interview was requested for about 2 days later, i replied informing HR that I would not be available for around 6 days, as mentioned to the previous interviewer. That was cool with them but for some reason they scheduled it for 2 weeks following.
So we arrive at the 3rd interview day, I had rearranged my day, got up earlier and did some preparation. Around 2 hours before the scheduled time I send HR an email kindly asking how long I can expect this to go for as it was never mentioned.
35 minutes before the start tile I get a response informing me that the interview is cancelled and they they rushed to go with another candidate, (they knew the position was filled at least 1 week before my interview date).
What the heck, how mega unprofessional but all in all it was for the best. Imaging what nonsense I would have had to put up with if i ended up there!
Advice, you are better elsewhere!
