      People Services Manager Interview

      26 Feb 2026
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Mariano's (Rosemont, IL)

      Interview

Contacted by recruiter for a phone screen after applying online. She was professional and listened well. Passed this step and was asked to interview in person with the VP of HR. VP was smart and experienced. Mariano's is projected to have the toughest two years in their history over 2016-2018 due to the economy. The Chicago area is a crucial market for them. I forecast that if/when the economy depresses (collapse of USD, global economy) consumers will navigate to stores like CostCo and Aldi, dramatically reducing Kroger/Roundy's/Mariano's competitive advantage. Career-minded professionals should avoid Mariano's at all costs. Kroger buying Roundy's was a smokescreen.

      People Services Manager Interview

      16 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Mariano's (Chicago, IL) in Sept 2015

      Interview

1.Applied Online 2.Contacted the Recruiter 3. Got a call from the interviewer. The initial steps to getting into contact with the recruiter was pretty easy. Applied, sent some emails through LinkedIn and was contatcted within 24 hours. The actual first interview, The recruiter contacted me right at 11:00 am for my interview time and seemed extremely nice until the interview began. I have a lot of experience with interviewing, as I interview with similar interview questions quite a bit to bring leaders onto my team at my current place of work. Literally she began asking basic questions like Why would you like to work for Marianos, and describe your current role etc.... At this point I was speaking for not even 20 or 30 second per question and she cut me off on every single question. I felt like I was just another interview for her. The People Services Manager Positon is salaried at 45,000k and they do not budge. I already make 10k over that, and wasn't willing to budge. She was super rude on that, and honestly this company sounds like a horrible place to work. Recruiters should never cut you off, nor be rude through the process. Super sad that they lost out on a great candidate. They should really rethink who they have doing their recruiting, because she clearly was hired quite blindly. I ended up thanking her for her time, and letting her know I did not appreciate how she spoke to me and that the process would go ahead and end right at this time.

      Interview questions [1]

Why do you want to work for marianos? What position did you apply for? Tell me more about your current role? How many people report to you?
