After two rounds of interviews, I was called in for another "general interview" and a site visit. Within five minutes of arrival, I was told that the role was given to an inside hire, but they "just wanted me to see what the role potentially would have been". I think a phone call or email to notify me that I would not get the role would have been better than having me take a day to show up in person, hopeful that this was the last round of interviews for a potential new career, only to be rejected as I walked in the door. Very strange situation. Besides that had a normal interview experience, but that mode of rejection put me off.
