I applied online. I interviewed at Macfarlanes (London, England) in Feb 2025
Interview
It was a negotiation, written exercise, and case study/competency interview. The assessment centre then ended with a tour of the offices. It was a good experience and the people were friendly. We also had a lunch with the trainees.
Was a mix of a Written exercise, competency interview, case study, and a group negotiation exercise. Lunch with informal conversations with trainees/associates and a office tour aswell. All in all a fairly straight-foward but challenging process
Pretty standard for a big law interview process. One important point to note is that I was asked to explain the meaning of the term 'top decking' by three separate interviewers. Would be a good idea to go in prepared to speak to that specifically.

Question 1
Can you explain the meaning of the term 'top decking' in a way that's easily understandable for someone without deep technical knowledge?
