      Christmas Temporary Staff Interview

      16 Apr 2017

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Lush in Aug 2016

      Interview

Emailed in my CV and covering letter mid-July, received an e-mail with an interview offer for beginning of August. Interview was a bunch of group tasks. We were split into 4 groups of 4-6 people, one group would design a product, one would practice customer demos, one did a personalised shopper task (got given a scenario and had to chose products for it) and then the other was a mini group interview, then we would switch and all groups presented their finished product at the end. Third and final stage was a shop floor trial. I found this the most stressful part as I felt I didn't know enough about the products to provide a personalised experience, but staff are always on hand to help and don't expect you to know everything. The whole process was really fun and relaxed, really well organised and staff were fab. However, I have had other interviews at different Lush stores and found that not all of them are like this. One in particular was incredibly unorganised, the group interview had over 50 people in it and it was not an enjoyable experience at all. It really depends on the store and often its size.

      Application

      Interview

The interview process was really good, everyone who came was sorted into random groups and took on different activities. The first activity for me was asking general questions and filling forms, then giving demonstrations of soaps and massaging, after this we got asked questions (a fun fact about us, our best customer service and our inspiration in life) and finally we had to give a demo in pairs of a lush product of our choice and give our group an insight into the product itself. My only pet peeve about the interviewing process was the fact that even as an outgoing person myself, everyone else seemed very eccentric which felt intimidating, so if you aren't sure about applying then I wouldn't as my only feedback was to be more confident which was a bit annoying as I was actively involved in everything and I had been complicated on my knowledge and confidence when giving demos of soaps and lush products. Additionally, a tip I would give if you are applying for future reference is to come knowing you don't crumble under pressure and the question about customer service stumbled a few people whilst others had full blown stories on good customer service.

      Christmas Temporary Staff Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Lush (Oxford, England) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Large group of people approx 75 in an interview at once. They are divided into groups of about 15 and assigned a part of the shop which they then rotate after a 15 minute activity. Activities included demonstrating a bath bomb, coming up with a holiday plan based on the scent of a given perfume, giving hand massages in pairs, role playing the shop floor introductions and creating a presentation/ molding with their 'fun' product. The team leader we were assigned really didn't seem like she wanted to be there, appeared to be uninterested and bored out of her mind. Didn't see her smile once which was strange as all the other staff seemed nice and welcoming. Not enough time was given during these activities and the process was rushed. Rarely got to speak my opinion as were constantly being hurried about. I wouldn't advice anyone to apply to LUSH unless they were pretty unique and out there. I'm not the loudest person but I'm pretty confident and I still felt pretty basic next to a lot of people there who visibly and very obviously stood out.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Lush (London, England) in Sept 2016

      Interview

I submitted a CV and a cover letter online to Lush Oxford Street and a few days later I got an email back saying they were interested in my application and asked me to fill out an online form explaining my availability over the following few months and specifically over Christmas. Then I was invited to a Lush Recruitment evening which by the time I arrived was absolutely packed full of people. We were organised into groups and were sent to do various activities. The first activity I had to do was to, as a small group, make an object or item out of their FUN and relate it to what Lush means to us and talk back to the other mini groups. We then went on to demonstrate a bath bomb to people pretending to be customers new into the store. Then we had to point out an area in which the shop displays were deliberately messed up. Then we were paired up and had to massage the other and practise listening and having the right body language, being relaxed and calm. Then we had to demonstrate being staff and being customers. The whole process was fun and at the end of it we were told that we could purchase something at the till if we wanted to and that we would find out if we were successful to progress to the next stage the next day. I got an email inviting me to a trial shift. The staff were really friendly and nice, it made the evening feel less daunting, my advice to anyone would be to just be yourself, research the company and their practices and just don't let yourself get eaten up by others who may be more vocal than you.
