I interviewed with a panel of five academics. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the outset. The chair of the panel came across as unnecessarily dismissive and frequently interrupted my responses, despite me keeping my answers concise and focused. The tone felt disproportionate and, at times, patronising. There also appeared to be a lack of diversity across both the interview panel and the wider academic group present during the teaching presentation. This stood out, particularly in a higher education environment where inclusivity is typically expected. The teaching presentation itself lacked engagement from most academic staff, who did not appear familiar with the topic or particularly interested in the session. In contrast, the students were the only group who actively engaged and contributed, which was a positive element in an otherwise underwhelming experience. Overall, I left the interview with a clear sense that the environment and culture were not aligned with what I am looking for.
