I was really quite shocked to be told later the same day that they interviewed 3 candidates and hired the one with the least experience because they thought that person was the best fit, the only reason I wasn't more shocked was because I'd kind of expected it from the vibe I got during the interview and because I'm sadly used to the utter inability of most 'values based' organisations to treat people well. Clearly they knew that this was 'off' as they did not put this feedback in words and instead fudged it by making it about 'sector specific experience' ie they wanted someone with a background in climate activism for an involved finance role. This is what happens when organisations employee on the basis of professed values rather than actual competence or professionalism.
