Poor job descriptions and interviewer.
The interviewer did not ask any questions about my background and skills or if I knew anything about the company. She read off a script for fifteen minutes that she knew nothing about. Only let me respond to one question asking about salary. When I responded it took her a whole minute to reply as she did not know what the salary for the job was. Then let me know if I would make it to the next round.
The question is what were the qualifications for making it? After I made it to the next round I was given a scheduled interview and writing sample I had 24 hours to complete. The interviewer sent the wrong document. Giving me less time.
Shortly after sending in the writing sample, they canceled the interview. Due to not having enough knowledge about the scientific details of gardening. Which was never listed as a requirement for the entry-level junior job. Had they asked me during the interview or listed on the job description it required prior knowledge of all the chemical properties of fertilizer and how it works I would not have applied in the first place.
What they were looking for is someone with prior gardening and landscape knowledge. I would have taken a lot of time to learn and understand landscaping and gardening terms more than what I could in less than 24 hours.
Requiring this knowledge is fine, but they wasted my time and lied about it being a junior position where one would assume they would provide mentorship and training so you could become knowledgeable about the field. Not cancel an interview before you get a chance to explain what your skills actually are to see if you are a good fit.
