Met face to face with an interviewer who invited me to meet, only to proceed to criticise the experience listed on my CV throughout the meeting.
I met with LOD after sending my CV and discussing it and my salary expectations with LOD over the phone. When I met with LOD face to face, it was a completely different story. Despite telling me over the phone that on the basis of my detailed CV it was likely I could be placed into a role in line with my clearly stated salary and PQE expectations, in the face to face meeting, the interviewer tried to discount much of the experience on my CV. She furthermore even implied that my experience at a Magic Circle firm in the UK and at a White Shoe US firm was not equivalent to a "Top Tier" Australian firm. I found that bizarre and out of touch.
In my opinion, I think the aim was to drive down my salary and PQE expectations from those which I had expressed the day prior and was told were reasonable in light of my CV.
In my opinion, the interviewer also had an unpleasant manner: she was officious, dismissive and had a contrived air of pleasantness. The interview felt like an interrogation.
It became apparent to me as the interview progressed that the interviewer thought she knew better than me about my own work experience.
In my opinion, she very clearly had no understanding of my area of specialisation or of the type of experience one gains when working for large international firms on major and long-running disputes. Nor did she appear to understand the experience of working in-house on disputes. She kept imposing her own views following my responses to her questions.
